Walker Movie Night: Wed, Nov. 5 at 6:30. We will watch "Babette's Feast", a beautiful film by Gabriel Axel. It takes place in the mid-1800's in Denmark, so for many of us Northern European types, these are our ancestors. The film is good food for thought and we will have a chance to talk about it! Free Hot Buttered Popcorn and beverages!

Dance the Creation Rehearsals: Thurs, Nov 6, 7 to 9 pm (& Sun, Nov 9, noon to 2 pm/ Thurs, Nov 13, 7 to 9 pm/Sun, Nov 16, noon to 2 pm/Thurs, Nov 20, 7 to 9 pm/Sat, Nov 22, 4 to 6 pm.) The dance will be performed during Sunday Celebration on Nov 23 & 30, and Dec 7. If you want to join the dancers, you need have no previous dance experience. The Fireroast Mountain Boys- Still on Fire: Saturday, November 8, 7pm. The Fireroast Mountain Boys are recording live and invite you back to laugh, applaud and sing a long again with us. We're also featuring a special guitarist option; play along on Guitar Jam as we try to set a new record for number of guitars on one song at Walker Church (currently the record is 17) and there will be a never before recorded Howard Kranz song. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18:

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died.

For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of God's trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Matthew 25:1-13:

"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.

As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise replied, 'No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut.
Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Twenty artists will bring their beautiful wares to our new building to resume the annual Walker Church Holiday Art Fair. Come to shop, stay for lunch! We will have homemade soups, good breads and baked goods to enjoy now or take home.

Massage therapy by Sarah Dagg is available in the meditation room, by appointment only. The rate is $45 per hour for Walker members and staff, $60 per hour for all others. Times available are usually Mondays. Call or text Sarah at 218-831-9570 for appointment or more info.

Care Calendar for Dianne O'Donnell who has begun radiation treatment & is in need of our help. Rides are needed 4 days a week, Tuesday-Friday, until November 21. Housekeeping can be done intermittently and can be scheduled by calling Dianne directly. A Care Calendar has been set up. From Barbara York: Foster/adoptive home needed for adorable dachshund (wiener dog) He is 7 years old, housebroken, healthy, friendly, good with kids and a bit spoiled but not excessively spoiled! Current owner will be going to Puerto Rico from November 24-early January. Then in May she will be moving there permanently. Owner will cover any vet expenses during foster period. From Deb Ramage: Volunteer for La Natividad. Volunteers especially needed RIGHT NOW for the following:

Shepherds: In this simple, funny, non-speaking role, Shepherds awaken in the night and make the journey to the nativity. Shepherd roles are great “partner” roles for Star Children, so bring your favorite young person and be in La Natividad together! BEST FOR: Young adults; adults who enjoy striking up caring relationships with Star Children. TIME COMMITMENT: 6 rehearsals and 8 performances Shepherds see most of the show (for free).

Star Children We invite many, many children to be part of the celebration. If you know of a young person who might like to participate, please encourage the child to join us. BEST FOR: young people who are old enough to follow directions (ages 5 or so) to age 15 who enjoy singing together from stage TIME COMMITMENT: 6 rehearsals and 8 performances Star Children see most of the show (for free).

Other Events & Announcements

Powderhorn Empty Bowls: Friday, November 7, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Powderhorn Park Building (3400 15th Avenue S) Local potters (including professionals, kids’ programs, and college departments) donate hand-made bowls, bread baked onsite and local volunteers cook soup. Neighbors come together, select a bowl, have a meal of soup and bread, and for this they make a donation of $ 20. The net income from the event is donated to help feed the hungry in our neighborhood. Walker is now the fiscal sponsor for this event, come over to check it out!

Rev Dr. Mark Morrison Reed speaks about the 1965 march to Selma, the turning point in the Civil Rights movement and the subject of hi new book.
